    made the leap

GOOD FOR YOU!! And everyone else. I went to $1 minute in December. $2 start. CC $3 minimum, $15 max. Count up. Revenue is way up. No complaints. 😊

    Electric vehicle charging stations

I have no personal experience. I have talked with Tesla owners that tell me the Tesla charging stations work through a phone app that facilitates the connection and charging of the vehicle. When it’s down to the last 15 minutes it alerts you and after about a 15 minute grace period it charges...

Where are you and what are your prices?

I installed new coin boxes the end of December. My old ones were 50 years old (really!) and looked like crap. The new ones are modern stainless steel. At this time I raised my prices to $1 minute and switched the credit card to count up. CC’s are $3 minimum and $15 maximum. I’m seeing a lot of...

What are you going to accomplish at your car wash this year?

I installed new coin boxes last month. I’m going to put new decals on the vacuum’s and seal coat the lot. A good “spring cleanup”.

We need to stop giving our business away.

    Increase to $3 to start

I take CC’s with Cryptopay, One’s Five’s Ten’s and Twenty’s for Dollar Tokens and Quarters I added Cryptopay about 2 years ago. My sales are currently $1 Cryptopay, $1 cash for tokens and 50 cents quarters. It’s 23 seconds for 25 cents. I was surprised that adding Cryptopay didn’t reduce my...

    Switching from Coins to Tokens

My sales are $1 Credit Card, $1 cash to token and 50 cents quarters. The vacuum’s have more quarters. I’ve watched and discovered that when people vacuum if they find a quarter they deposit it into the vacuum. TAKE QUARTERS! I’m dollar tokens, dollar coins and quarters. I only dispense custom...

    Switching from Coins to Tokens

I recommend tokens with dollar value and the same size as dollar coins. I have Slugbuster III’s and take dollar tokens, dollar coins and quarters. It’s surprising how many of my customers have quarters in their pockets. My reasoning for dollar tokens is with a two dollar start up about the time...

Poll: I plan on taking a few days off this summer to relax.

I live 150 miles from my carwash. My vacation home is in that town. I’m almost always not there. My “support guy” works at the restaurant next door. When he takes his break he checks the carwash while he smokes his cigarette. He empties the trash cans and looks for damage or broken equipment...

    How scalable is your Biz….

I think the times my bays are empty is related to weather. Dark, rainy, ugly days don’t get much business. Another factor is town activity, I’m in a beach tourist town. Razor clam digging draws a LOT of sportsman. This year the fall season was closed by Fish and Game. I estimate a $4000.00 loss...

    Triple Foam Setup

I have a triple foam system. I don’t see any extra value in it. It was sold to me as “The customer will see the color change and use it longer!” That has not been my experience. What I see is the customer uses the foam brush as long as it takes to wash the car. In addition, my system always...

    Sunrise / Sunset

I switched to all LED bay lighting. The energy consumption is so low that I just leave them on 24/7. My wash is brightly lit at all times. It looks open and bright light is a security feature, people just feel safer in well lit areas.

    Looking for a Cryptopay installer

They are really easy to install. I was overthinking it and confused myself at first. You just wire them across the coin acceptor. Think of them as a coin acceptor that uses a credit card. The setup website is super easy too.

    New wash help

I bought a old wash 22 years ago. I have concentrated on the customer experience. What’s behind the equipment door they don’t see, it’s what they interact with that matters. Keep everything working. Always. Have spare parts for everything in stock. When you use it replace it. Simple repairs stay...

    Medco cylinder lock problem

I’ve had success with flushing the lock out with WD-40 and then gently tapping the key in with a hammer. Then the lock is removed and thrown away. If that doesn’t work start drilling. The locks have hardened steel pins cast into them. You will expose the pins as you drill. Pick them out with a...

    New wash cryptopay question

I have really old Monorail timers. I too, thought it would be difficult to wire up Cryptopay. It turns out all you have to do is wire the Cryptopay swiper just like it was a coin acceptor. You program the swiper for number of pulses to start and time per pulse. The timer in the bay is set for...

Anyone have a older functioning car wash than us?

The first job that I had was helping out at a RoboWash. I was about 12 years old. My current 4 bay self serve was built about 1964. I’ll see if I can confirm a build date. It’s cinder block construction.

    New to me wash

I always like to see a neglected business get taken over by a new operator that sees the opportunity and has the energy to bring it back to life! Nothing you have done has been Rocket Science, it’s just basic daily business operations. Keep it clean. Keep it working. Keep it looking like a place...
