Updating Car wash tunnel

A decision needs to be made as to what business model is being pursued here.

Hanna back in the 90s had some very short tunnel packages made for C-stores, and this might be one of those sites.

You could also could consider a rental/fleet wash drive through unit. If you want to keep the labor and offer the full service options, just have one of your employees drive it through. Full serve washes often have employees loading and unloading the cars from the conveyor anyway. I would not allow customers to drive their own car through, however.

I’d recommend foam - not nylon brushes. There are a lot of manufacturers who make simple drive through units like this.

Currently we have 50 ft conveyor tunnel, about 40 ft building and 5 ft extended outside building on entrance and exit. Until last month before closing we were cleaning about 800 cars & over 1000 during pollen months. We didn’t had any brushes or Mitter in the tunnel. We were basically using hand brush with stick at the entrance for cleaning/scrubbing dirt and then send car in the tunnel for rinse. It was labor intensive.

We want to update our car wash tunnel.

Should we put mitter and side brushes or go with inbay automatic from Wash world?

Any advice would be highly appreciated.
Automatic wash 24/7 never calls in sick!! Lol
Tunnel you have labor . You know your site better then anyone else. Inbay can only wash 5 to 6 car's per hour. 50' tunnel 20 to 25 per hour . I hope this helps

is that even a thing? touchless iba followed by a full service?
Yes, well, it was for one client. He marketed touchless but in reality, there was a significant amount of hand prep with stick brushes, wheel brushes, yellow scrubbers and prep guns at the entrance and since it was full service, there was towel drying at the exit.

WTH kind of an iBA only does 5cph?
I got a Petit that will do 16 on top pkg & a Razor Edge that will do 13.
An Oasis Typhoon will do 20cph, on top pkg & wash the hel outta the car!

The ones that have on board dryers and inefficient programming with stupid amounts of passes. They also have pay stations that are 10' or less from the entrance and are in line with the predominant wind so most people will not pull up to it until the car in the bay is pulling out. Then they screw around putting cash in or inserting their card the wrong way. End result is 5 CPH.

Hello People, It has been almost 9 months since I started seeking advice here and learn about in-bay automatics

We have finally signed a contract for Washworld Razor Edge and we are in to 6 weeks of site preparation for new equipment.

While site is getting ready, I want to seek advise for which soap company to use to get the best results. My equipment distributor deals with Ver-Tech labs and NCS chemistry while I was leaning more towards chemquest or JBS or Simoniz. I just don't want to buy chemicals online I want a company that does visit site at regular intervals and evaluate wash results. We are located in New Jersey.

Ver-Tech has a very strong product line.

The chemical is everything especially with a touchless. Stay away from NCS. Try the ver tech with the distributor first if he seems like he knows what he's doing. Ive never used them but have heard good things. Hopefully he is knows how to set them up properly. Have them do a cost per car analysis and make sure they titrate. It's amazing how many soap guys dont even know what titration is. Other then that if you have a blend co guy in your ares then that would be a good option as they have really good chemical. Your chemical choice is just as important as the new machine. Pick someone who makes you feel comfortable and is knowledgeable even if they are not the cheapest.

I submit there is a big difference between what a machine is capable of and what the human / customer factors limit it to.
Anyone can program any IBA for a 8-10min wash package. Add customers who are slow at the Paystation for any number of reasons and you are at 5 CPH.

If I owned a 4-6 bay IBA location I would experiment with one bay being a longer wash package only in the 8-10 min range. More applications, slower application, more drying passes, to be able to have an almost detailed finished product. However we would need to charge 2x for the package. No idea if there would be a market for such a higher end wash package.

There was a poster here a few years ago who did something similar to what Roz is saying. I think he had three touchless IBA’s and they each did their own package - slow, medium and fast. I remember the location being outside the US.
