Issues with cryptopay tap plus

I just had this issue today. One tap plus would no longer read cards. I also noticed 2 green lights along the top of the unit on the face. The bezel was cycling lights normally. Anyway I power cycled it and it started working again. Really hoping it doesn’t freeze up again but I’ll be looking for the 2 green lights as a clue.

Happened to me couple months ago had to send one in to get replaced had them less than a year. I looked at my cameras and I see one unit turned off completely havent went to the wash yet to see whats wrong.

I had this issue again in Feb 2026 on 1 out of 3 bays that have Tap+. I power cycled that bay and all is ok again. I hope this doesn't become a trend, but it would be a good idea to power cycle the bays every once in a while, I guess.

Same problems here. Customers complaining. Crypto pay employee told me most electronics need reset from time to time, or something of that effect. Like we have time to babysit these. Hell the attendant cards don’t even have tap, so I use my card. What a garbage product imo.

I have the old taps and swipes at all locations. I just ordered 4 new tap plus’ Can I still keep the swipes at the locations I install the new ones. I understand they do not require a swipe but is it still capable of having one used along side it? Thanks ! Joe

Yes Joe, you can tell cryptopay to configure have the tap plus work as slaves to the swipers. That's what I just did. All you have to do is provide power to the tap plus. When the swipers eventually quit working and I run out of spare swipers I will rewire and have them change programming to have the tap pluses perform as an independent unit.

My swipers have been pretty reliable. I installed my tap pluses just a month ago and had to power cycle one the either day on a vac to start working so if this becomes a regular issue that will be irritating to say the least.

The newest attendant cards have a bar code to use the scanner.

I'm pretty entrenched in the cryptopay system. If someone was starting from scratch I might look at Nayax I still hear more people complain about Nayax, and considering that Nayax has a tiny share of the market compared to cryptopay I'm assuming cryptopay has been a smoother experience for most..

I remember when credit card systems for the self serve were 5k/bay and close to 10% processing fees. Cryptopay came in and turned that market upside down.

I installed all new coin boxes about a year ago with tap plus units only. This has been a regular issue since day 1. They’ve given us the same excuses. Even telling us that it’s a power issue and to check our transformers. I’ve checked everything many times over to no avail.

They will not admit it’s an issue with the units or their software. Their latest software update does seem to make the units do this much less frequently. It’s been very frustrating to say the least.

I just sent mine in today no power whatsoever completely dead. Had for 10 months 2nd one ive sent in. The first one they said reader head was damaged and i paid and got it replaced (when the first one died it literally shorted my dixmor led 7 i have in line fuses have never had it happen before) this second one didnt kill my dixmor just died on its own only thing i can think of is water possibly got in it I saw what looked like a larger scratch on the clear plastic that went to the end of the bevel it may have allowed water in. Only other issue i had before was 1 bay turned on non stop I only noticed because i happened to check the cameras and saw my whole baywas covered in foam brush soap. Took 2-3 power cycles before it stopped.

My first CryptoPay Tap Plus, installed in February, is already having issues, which makes me hesitant to install it in my other bays.

Issues noticed:
  • It stops working without any indication.
  • The timer shuts off suddenly.
A hard power reset restores it. I contacted CryptoPay support, but they could not explain the cause and only said occasional resets are normal for electrical devices, which was not helpful. I currently use the B&C timer: https://www.bce-inc.com/product/1034-r/

I am considering switching to a Dixmor timer to see if that helps. Any ideas on what could be causing this? Also, how can I escalate this to someone higher at CryptoPay?

I use Dixmor timers across my bays and rarely have to resort to a hard restart, but I’ve had a frustrating experience with the unit I recently sent in for repair. After the expected three-week turnaround , the unit was back in service for only one day before the relay stuck, forcing me to send it right back.
While I still like these units overall, it is clear that some internal components need an upgrade (the relays are underpowered if im not mistaken), or the warranty needs to be extended. In my view, a $500 cc should be a premium product fit for its application . It should be able to reliably outlast its warranty, rather than failing halfway through it.

How many bays have Tap Plus installed? Is this the only bay having the issue? Also, when did you buy this device? I am hoping it may be from a bad batch.

I have installed on four bays on dixmor led 7s I just hit one year this past March. One I sent in for a reader head repair. It cost me $200 the other reader I sent in one month ago it turned off but never turned back on, but it was in service for one day before the relay got stuck in. It got sent back. When I first got all four units I think I had to send two back in on the original installed date. I don't recall what was wrong, but they were giving me issues.

How do attendant cards work? Is there unlimited use on them? Are there fees? Do I have to add money to an account to use them?

Secondly, do you have any other services Cryptopay offers? Fleet cards? Everwash membership program?

Thanks!

I only see improvements as time goes on. As long as they keep developing their product it will only get better. Like i said i do prefer their units and yes their fees are much better than other companies. The great thing is their customer support system updated and has been wayyyyy more responsive (live chat is amazing). Other CC companies have an almost non existent customer service center

My attendant cards have a QR code and they will run as if a credit card was used on the bay and turn off at the max charge settings. You have on there. Literally by far the greatest feature I have on the Car wash. Makes cleaning the bays out super easy. It is unlimited you do not load any money on there its just a card you scan and go

I have the tap plus on 2 wash select paystations. One works flawlessly all the time(so far). The other one gets stuck on the amber lights and thus making it not work. Without looking at the reader all the time, the only way i know about it is when i get the email stating there has not been any activity for 24 hours. The email is helpful but dang. I always cycle the power and it goes back to working. Today, after the umpteenth time this has happened I decided to call cryptopay.. Tech suggested i reseat the ribbon cable onthe display. I had doubts because the power to the unit does not pass thru the ribbon cable. To my surprise it did make it work. The point is it was a connectivity issue in my case. it sounds like everyone else has a differrent problem but hopefully this helps somebody.

On these four bays since I’ve had them for the past year, I’d rarely power cycle maybe had to do it 3 times the whole year, the only other thing I have connected on my 24 V lines are in-line fuses and my transformers have the reset button but I haven’t had any fuses burn or any transformers need to reset. I wonder if its just a batch you got? The only thing I’ve heard other people complain of is the relays in the unit are underpowered , but I don’t know if that would be a reason it needs to be power cycled.

Anyone else having issues with the new tap plus units? From some odd reason it intermittenly doesnt read/detect cards untill the power is shut off for a few seconds then turned back on. I've been having this issue since i made the switch from swipers. I also lost a few customers as well because the bay wouldnt turn on and the customer didn't have cash on hand. This is a real bummer because i spent alot of money converting to tap plus units thinking they were going to be better and easier to use for the customer. It's been turning out the o

We have this issue also. We subscribe to the analytics. I log in daily when busy to view statistics, then purchase by device, then set the calendar to see what is happening to each bay that day, or set to see what has happened that day and the previous day. I can spot any down tap units and we re-set them - huge help to spot when any are down. Just powering down and up gives the 1st cc washer a millisecond count up, so after the power down and up we activate the 1st wash with an expired card which turns on the bay for maybe 1/2 second and back off, thus getting rid of the millisecond 1st wash. Crypto will most likely solve the issue.
