Contactor Installing

I am installing a new 2 pole contactor. The new contactor is the not same size, so I will need to drill new holes and mount it on the back panel. The problem is I do not want to remove the back panel because of all the wires I will need to remove. Can I just use a small metal tap screw and drill it threw the panel instead of using a screw and putting a nut on the back panel?

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Do yourself a favor and drill and tap the hole. Self tappers don't like to be removed and replaced next time you need to replace the contactor.

Agreed, small tap hole first because of what sparked says, and also you don't want your screw to "dance" before it gets a bite into the panel.

If you are going to go to that effort why not just install a DIN rail? that way you can just snap in any future component.

If you don't want to drill and tap, you could drill and use "Rivnuts", then just use machine screws to hold a piece of DIN rail, which will allow you to add or remove easily in the future.
