windshield chip repair

I'm researching doing chip repair at my ss . Any suggestions on companies to look at that provide training and support.
In my travels to Las Vegas last week I stopped in St George Utah and talked with a ss owner that had a chip repair kiosk to keep his attendent busy,he was pretty satisfied with the business.My location with gravel roads and never ending highway construction in my area would be a plus factor.Any input from the Forum on pro's and con's would be appreciated. Thanks

When I was in Texas, we used glass mechanix...pretty easy to learn, its pretty teachable to a person in one day...pros, low overhead, easy to get started, high profit, 3-6K revenue, only con i can think of is there are a few hoops you have to jump with insurance companies to get paid, and all your t's must be crossed and i's dotted correctly on all paperwork, so you need someone precise processing the claims.

We have partnered with a glass repair company for the meantime as our public insurance doesn't pay well unless you have a tech employed full time that has 3 years experience in replacements as well. Works well for us as it still brings revenue in the door.

Long term we will have to do it ourselves, but this at least gets it going.

3-6k, is that per month? Is that in a SS location? Did you have insurance pre-approved prior to work being done?

When we initiated a chip repair program it did very well for about 6 months. After that it slowly dwindled down to the point that we did one rarely. I think what happened that once we repaired all the chips and cracks from our regulars we only got business from the occasional customer. We even ran ads in local media and had some attractive signage. Eventually we discontinued the program.
