I don?t like the term ?glass-front?, but it has been used for many years to differentiate between the old drop shelf box vendors and the newer systems. The word "glass" may automatically and sub-consciously bring to an operator?s mind some security concerns for the vendor at a wash site. The window in the ShurVend system IS ?glass?, but that issue has been decreased to almost zero by the security systems designed by ShurVend. We have evidence from many years of experience in all kinds of installations that the glass window is not a security issue.
The control panel (money handling, display, and selection buttons) is much more likely to be a vandalism/security problem than the window. Let?s be realistic, most vandals/ thieves do not want the products in the vendor, they want the money!! So we have designed the mask to cover the control panel of the vendor so it is almost impossible to breach. That does not mean someone will not try, it just means there is very little chance that they will succeed.
Indeed the chance of vandalism/theft on an electronic drop shelf system without a central money vault system is greater than that on the ShurVend systems. The thin stainless steel of the vendor, the many locks that are needed, and, the frustration of a ?no vend? because there is no ?Guaranteed Delivery System?, could lead to a greater chance of problems. I have seen sites where each drop shelf vendor has been enclosed in a special steel framework to add security to each one. If an operator wants to spend the time and money to build these individual frameworks, the cost of drop shelf security will be more than the cost of ShurVend security.
