Anyone who deals with trash dumping and worse can sympathize with the couple in the story below.

Local readers, in general, have savaged the guy with very harsh comments for not being more hospitable to the public. I think you have to experience this sort of thing to truly understand.

I'm just glad I own a SS instead of a restaurant in a remote location.

You do have to experience it to understand. When I was in the fast food biz I had 2 locations on I81. A very large number of people came in, used the restroom, and just left. Restrooms are expensive to build and maintain, and not fun to clean up. I had people crap in the sink, urinals, & on the floor. Caught lots of foreign, Arab looking people washing their feet in my sinks - it was a common occurance. They broke the sinks right off the wall many times. During the night when we were closed (after 11pm) they would crap in front of the back door. There are a lot of dirtbag people out there. When I was due to renew my franchise aggreement I had to remodel the store, which included the restrooms. Restroom part of remodel was 35k to bring them into compliance with ADA. And then people want to use them for free. Very frustrating. I can understand these folk's reaction to this. Incidently, I had 3 other locations in small towns that did not have these sort of issues. They had the occasional jerk who trashed the restroom, but nothing like the problems we had with travelers. I am very happy to be out of the restaurant biz.

Had a couple of thoughts.

Why the heck are so many people stopping to puke at this place?

I think he should put up a huge sign "Free Restrooms" then charge like heck for TP, soap and water.

Puking

The location is on Highway 50 headed to/from Lake Tahoe. It is a two lane, windy highway and everyone drives it fast first to get up to the gambling and then to get the hell home after losing their shirt. Plus, from San Francisco, there is an elevation rise of 8,000 feet.

Many people "drink their way up there" and need facilities on the way. The others who went broke in the casino and are on the way home are often hammered and full of food and liquor.

I really feel for the guy-- and the firestorm of hatred against this guy tells me that most people don't understand even slightly his problems, just like they don't know what it's like to deal with constant trash dumping.

Laundromat owners --- depending on their location --- can definitely relate ---especially the part about the restrooms!

What would happen if an owner put a porta potty out there. In my travels abroad I've seen where business owners charged for using the bathroom.Bad idea, people would still crap in front of the door.

I feel for those owners, but the animals have done this to each and everyone of our businesses. I find it so hard to believe that people are so mean spirited everywhere. But all i hear on the news is the mean business owner who won't pay more wages and taxes, and isn't paying their fair share, so maybe this is how they all pay us back. I have a new word for those people from the article. ( Interloper)

I think that it is just a lack of respect for any and everyone. The bashing out of the big O's mouth doesn't help.
