I was fortunate to be about 10 miles from where they launched the shuttle once. It was a once in a lifetime experience for me. When the ship was about a 30 degree angle from me you could feel the ground rumble and vibrate. Then the noise came. You vibrated and became part of the process. Just unreal. After that I found a local bar and sat next to a NASA engineer sharing our space experiences. (He had more than me.) we nonetheless had a great conversation.
