self serv pump replacement

Turbo

Member
I have 3 Giant P56W self serv pumps. They are belt driven. They dont seem to last long. Few people know how to rebuild them (including Kleen Rite) and the parts are seem exepnsive. I was thinking of replaceing them as they fail.

Any thoughts? Should I? If so should I go with CAT, General, Emperor, Armitsu, etc?

Thanks

I’d go with a Cat 310S (the ‘S’ stands for stainless steel sleeves in the valve and plunger areas). The ‘S’ pumps are only $50 higher than their regular model. I’ve had to have all my Cat heads reworked with the stainless steel sleeves, but other than that they have been virtually trouble free (12 years).

That being said, I’ve heard that Armitsu makes a fine pump but I have no experience with them.

General is a good choice too. They're inexpensive new and easy and inexpensive to repair.

The Cat 5CP is a good pump, but for some reason they don't make it with stainless sleeves.

General and Emperor are basically the same pump except for where they're made. It's like choosing between a Mitsubishi and a Hyundai; they're designed the same and do the same job but the Mitsubishi/General will hold up better.

I went with Aramitsu and I'm very pleased. Have held up well and are much quieter than the Cats they replaced. Greg Thiennes will give exceptional customer service.

Actually, its like Fiat and....well, Fiat. There have never been any import quotas on Fiats. :D

The Emperor seems to have been GP's attempt to copy Arimitsu pumps, again. Italy has a history of Emperors, right? They did the same thing 20 years ago with the EZ series. Why not buy the original?

I have 21 Arimitsu in service and very much enjoy the quiet eq. rooms. I only have three Cats left and as soon as they need seals or anything, they will be replaced with Arimitsu 516s as well. Greg and James are top notch to deal with. I won't buy anything else.

Arimitsu - I have not seen anyone indicate if these pumps have stainless seats. The other brands have washout without stainless. Who is Greg Thiennes? Thanks.

I don't remember if they have ss seats. Greg is the rep for Arimitsu. I may have misspelled his last name.
