Saving energy and money

Randy Nix brought to my attention a 500W area light. The light is Flourescent consuming 65W of power while producing 500W of light. I bought two and installed them on one of my vac islands. The results are dramatic. The fixture cost me $45 per fixture including bulb. The cost to operate per fixture 12 hours per day 365 days per year is $34 per year. I decided to buy 10 more fixtures after seeing the results of the brilliant white light and coverage. This will enable me to discontinue the area lights provided by Progress Energy at at saving of $150 per month. My electrican informed me that Wall Packs are now being offerd with Flourescent bulbs. We are converting two Metal Halide wall packs to Fourescent by disconnecting the ballast and wirering direct. I plan to convert all bay wall packs to Fourescent. The 500W bulbs are $14 each, another cost savings. The fixtures can be purchased at Home Depot and Lowes. I bought from Home Depot. Also, bulbs are available in 750W and 1000W. The 1000W consumes 100W.

Some of the newer fluorescents are pretty effective. I've seen a 65W mini wall-pack style that's as bright as a 175W metal halide, and it's only $40.

I believe the 75W fluorescent bulb's output is 750W of light. The bulbs can be found in Home Depot and Lowes. If there is a bulb there should be a fixture. I don't recall if it was a wall pack. However, my electrician has a catalogue with Fluorescent Wall Packs. He just called me this evening and stated in arrived in the mail today. I'll see it in the morning. I'll have more info tomorrow.

Please send or share the flourescent pics. I may decide to replace the metal halide on my ministorage with them. Thanks!!

Hi - I am looking for enclosed, waterproof flourescent fixtures - is this what you purchased?

If not, do you know who carries them? / Thank you

All,

That all makes sense if you are replacing 120V Incans for CPFs. But all my lights are all MH 460v lights. So the difference is almost nothing.
