Roller spacing

dewey9876

I CLN CAZ
120' tunnel, 50k cars per year, 7' spacing fine for 98% of days.

Question - will 3'6" spacing reduce wear and tear on rollers (spreading work out over more rollers) or will it just be twice the number of rollers to maintain?

All the rollers are making the trip when a car goes down the conveyor. There will be more wear and tear on the decks as well as sprocket and drum. Typically a 50k wash would be fine with 7'4" spacing. If you were75k minimum is where I would look to shorten the roller spacing.

FWIW have 3 places with 3'6 and one with 7 " I have used 100k a year as the yardstick for the upgrade. IMNSHO you can get pretty darn good production from 7' depending on how your location and collection system is set up.
Depending on conveyor th addittional roller cost is substantial.

Also, you should have wear bars on the deck which are sacrificial / replaceable.
