We replace our fluorescent bulbs every 12 – 18 months. They punk out (lose their Lumens) pretty fast after about a year. 3 years is way too long. We do the same with the Metal Halides.

T5 bulbs should retain 90% of their light output over the life of the bulb. A T12 will only retain 60% of its light output.

Is there a trade off on life of bulbs per T5s vs others?

We get 5 years of life from our T-8 8" fixtures, no problem.
Mark & others,

I don't want to jump to conclusions but based on what you & Randy wrote it seems like there could be a worthwhile longer life with the T8s vs the T5s or T12s. The (quantity) of energy savings of the T5s might not look quite as attractive based on that???

T5 have the longest average life (up to 36,000 hours). T8 are around 18,000, T12 around 10,000.
