Remote plug

Looking for a remote outlet that I can use to power cycle my wireless router. I’m wanting the ability to remotely power cycle my WiFi…..so I need a remote outlet that connects via Ethernet (rj45) directly to my switch. Is there such a device?

Why do you even need this? Curious. You can always put an outlet timer on your wifi that power cycles at night for few minutes or so but won't be remotely controlled.

You could use a wifi smart plug. Every time you turn the plug on it would activate a timer relay (powered by a separate voltage - the plug will be your signal) that kills power to your wifi for say 30 seconds or so. Once the timer is done the normally closed contacts will engage and your wifi will have power again and so will your wifi plug.

I can draw you a wiring diagram if you want.

Some internet providers allow you to reboot a router remotely via their app. May be more reliable approach if a available to you.

You can find various WiFi socket plugs at Home Depot. We used them until installing a hard wired solution from Lutron. We use A hard wired switch to control our outside lights that are on a photo eye.

He’s trying to kill his WiFi. If you use a WiFi plug to kill it you will have no way of turning it back on.

I hear and understand the issue. Depends on the WiFi box. Original design was definitely an issue but many of the new models have a rocker on/off switch so it will come back to life after losing power. Ours does so when power company has an issue and we lose power.

If his WiFi is built into an internet box from provider those often have rocker switches so they come back to life with a change in power. Not enough coffee today.
