Pump Rotation...

Asked cat tech support which way the crankshaft should turn on a 530 cat pump, this is how they replied:

If you are looking at the shaft and the manifold is on your right, the shaft should turn clockwise.
If you are looking at the shaft and the and the manifold is on your left, the shaft should turn counter-clockwise.
The pump can be run in the opposite direction. Just fill the oil to the top of the red dot on the sight glass.

Forward rotation (towards the manifold) is recommended to allow optimum lubrication of the crosshead area, ensuring exceptional drive end life. If your installation does not allow for forward rotation, reverse rotation is acceptable if the crankcase oil is above the red dot in the oil gauge. This assures adequate lubrication.

They used to have a directional arrow stamped on the crankcase by each output shaft end. I guess at some point someone determined that slightly overfilling the crankcase made it okay to run it in reverse of that.

For newbies on the forum ... first choice should normally be to rearrange the wiring on the motor to make sure the direction matches the pump manufacturer's more recommended rotation.

I posted this for newbies who may be searching the forum for an answer, just so it is out there. I love this forum, have been doing this for almost 30 years, but i learn something every day.
