Paraplate discharge size

The discharge is 1/4" is that enough to return to the low pressure side or does it need to be 3/8" or 1/2" hose"?

I always use 3/8" Push-Lock hose (No clamps that way), but 1/4" seems to be enough.

It only has a 1/4” stem on the output side, so I use the same size hose back to the pump. Not sure if increasing the hose size would have any benefit.
