Paint For SS

Tone

New member
Time to repaint the wash once again wondering which paint you've found to be the best without going through the expense and brain damage of Epoxy- have done that two or three
times ago and could not justify the expense and the labor similar longevity, Thanks in advance!

I'm about to paint mine. Going with Sherwin-Williams Loxon XP in a low sheen. Not sure what your wash is made of, but mine is CMU (Concrete Blocks). It will be a few weeks before I start, but I can come back and update once completed.

If this is going in to a car wash bay I am going to save you a ton of time and effort and tell you this will not work.

What epoxy are you using?

If you want a long term solution, plastic paneling is one option.

Appreciate the heads up. I will reach out to SW Industrial Coating store…if we have any around here. I don’t recall ever seeing any. So is it worth using the Loxon XP on the outside? Or would you go Epoxy all the way around?

SS Bay interior - FRP Pebble finish deters graffiti scratchers. Exterior brick - Used a "Concrete Stain - Gets absorbed into the Brick. Got it at HD Tunnel interior Smooth FRP.

Once you paint the walls at your car wash you'll be painting the car wash walls every year. Paint just doesn't stick to the walls.
This wash is over 20 years old. I don't know how many times it's been painted over the years. It's new to me. Painting the outside is necessary in my opinion. Luckily it isn't huge. If I had to paint every year, it wouldn't hurt my feelings.

If you are DIY you can do extrutech inside the bay walls at maybe 3.00-4.00/sq ft. If you're in a decent area with a relatively warm climate it will last 20 years and will be much easier to keep clean. Extrutech does become brittle and more prone to damage in cold weather but that's not usually a problem in a decent area Rough area I'd likely opt for FRP. The place is already painted but if it wasn't I too would recommend stain as it soaks in the block and doesn't peel.

Prep time pays dividends. I'd acid wash any bay and interior column to be painted and if at all possibly shut down each bay long enough for it to completely dry out. But busy washes inevitably are going to get moisture intrusion in the block and possibly cause peeling issues at the base of columns and walls.

If it were me, I’d do extrutec on the interior up to 8’ from the floor. Keep the area above the 8’ painted as well as the ceiling. I’m sure the areas that need constant painting and cleaning is lower than 8’. More money than just painting but you’ll be painting a lot less than required now.

I had an exterior wall get some graffiti on it. I used solid color concrete stain. Never had to repaint and never had peeling issues.

I think the concrete stain lasted 10+ years on the exterior beofre needing to be done again.
Off topic but meter boxes are those? Do you know if someone makes replacement faces? I have the same ones and am looking at replacing or upgrading them. I can't find a manufacturer anywhere. My guess would be D&S.

Thanks

Bill acceptor box is from Etowah Valley. They can also make you new/replacement faceplates of any size. If Earl can't tell you which faceplates he has I know Etowah valley can make replacements based on your measurements. Be sure to EMAIL them, do NOT even make an attempt to get Jim on the phone.
