Only count up in the USA

I had a gentleman call me today and inform me my credit cards system was malfunctioning because he swiped his card for the $5 fee but it just kept going on the timer after the 5 minutes. I explained to him that it was a count up system and that to stop the charge you had to push the button on the swiper like the instructions say. He told me he travels the US in his 30 foot trailer and uses SS washes all the time and has never heard of count up time and that he never has to read the instructions. Bla Bla Bla. My thought is that probably 75% or more of SS car washes using credit cards use the count up method. Am I wrong?

i'm count up on cc; people can take their time and not worry about racing around to finish quickly. it means more $ spent by each customer. no one complains, really. on the rare occasion someone forgets to press stop, i ask them how much they think they overpaid by and give them back that amount. happens maybe 6x/ year. no big hot dog.

We were count up for years, and then switched to countdown and offering 4 price/time selections for the customer to choose. Love it. Everyone has their own preference.

I agree with Waxman. We switched to count up two years ago. Sales went up and a handful of people call each year because they didn't read the instructions.
