Motor Starters

I had the last Cutler Hammer starter go bad Friday - Model AE16CN0. Spare on the shelf was shot. I am looking online and these things seem to go for $500-$1000 used.

Any suggestions for where to source a replacement, or how to crosswalk my original unit to todays model? I spent $250 for a new Eaton starter back in the fall and thought it was reasonable, but struggling to match up to a replacement.

Does it need to be the type with the heater strips? Can you switch to a modern version with a thermal overload?

I believe I do? Can't say for certain. I know just enough about electrical to be dangerous and keep the place running. I have two other stands that are thermals, so I believe this one is heater strips.

Here is a pic of the cabinet - I took the bad one home to track it down, but otherwise identical to the other three.

Are you trying to find an exact replacement? Any manufacturer is going to have what you need. I bought some fuji contactors and overloads from automation direct for my blowers, should cost $100ish per bay or less for what you need if you don't need an exact match.

I use Siemens parts 3RT20241AC20 (Contactor) and 3RU21261KB0 (Thermal overload), good for up to 5 HP motors. You should be able to find the pair for under $80. I mount them on DIN rail.

What went bad? Those contactors and other parts for that motor starter can be had pretty cheap used in good condition on ebay. Under eaton brand now, same fitment
