I recently purchased a SS with 3 bays, my 2 small bays have cat 430 pumps. Showing 1000psi on the guadge. If I wanted to go with a higher pressure what would be a good pump recommendation? They just don't seem very powerful?

And which pumps are better, plunger or piston?

Plunger pumps are better for more pressure. Your 430 pumps are only rated to 1000 PSI. Check your motor and pump pulley sizes, usually you'll have a 4" pulley on the motor and an 8" on the pump, which will allow at least 1500 PSI with a 3 GPM nozzle.

I checked and my pulleys are correct, not sure about the nozzle?

You will need a new pump pulley or if you have a 2-piece a sheave bushing in 20mm to reuse your current pulley.
