Drilling a small hole is best and should be done. Be careful cutting a larger hole because it will change the suction of the chemical, possibly causing the hydrominder not to suck chemical at all.

I drill a 3/16" hole at an angle about 2" below the yellow ring. As long as it is above the water level in the tank.

As long as the hole is below the restriction ring it won't affect suction. I've seen the discharge hose cut almost completely through and it diluted properly.
