“We already are barely getting the cars rinsed off…”

“Was wondering about our layout and would like some input.”

Tunnels are usually designed by dividing the wash-bay into three sections - cleaning, rinsing/waxing and drying.

Cleaning includes solution application and cleaning module. Cleaning modules are usually three, five or seven-touch. It is customary to place high-pressure cleaning and wheels between cleaning module and polish module (three-touch).

Prior to rinsing/waxing, it is suggested to have a positively charged surface. The reason is the water drops that form through operational spray as well as the silicone and polymer contained in drying agent and wax products carry a negative electrical charge.

Since opposite electrical charges attract, this allows the drying agent and/or wax to attach to the surface. The silicone and polymer contained in the drying agent and wax creates a larger contact angle on the surface that repels water (hydrophobic effect) which aids in rinsing, drying and protecting surfaces.

It is customary to inject a mild surfactant into the water that is sprayed on cleaning materials fitted to rotating and swinging brushes. The foam creates some show but more importantly the soap serves to lubricate the brushes to help prevent damage.

If you are not soaping brushes and are barely getting vehicles rinsed off, this would suggest you have a problem somewhere.

Thanks for all the input. Two things. Our customers do not like tape or bags on their wipers. Who's going to take them off? Second, we already are barely getting the cars rinsed off, if we add soap to mitters, they are right before rinse bar. Was wondering about our layout and would like some input. In order, our tunnel is presoak, high pressure rinse, foaming shampoo, top brush, side wraps, mitters, rinse bar. Does this sound right?
1. We have used masking tape for a long time. As it gets wet from the wash and from rain it tends to fall off over time. Also, whenever the customer exits the car after the wash it's a simple matter for them to pull it off.

2. Yo may be able to solve the rinsing problem easily but it will depend in large part about exactly which areas of the car present a problem .
The first things I would try in this order is A. ) Use a low PH product on the mitter B.) ad a single 65/10 Fresh water jet top center before the Rinse Bar, C. ) A single 65/05 Top center jet 6 inches before the DA to neutralize soap. D. A Single 65/ 08 Top center Jet 6 inches after the Setting Arch.
A guy told me to do the last one years ago. Its counterintuitive but it really seemed to improve the sheeting.
