As I get older I notice how people come to the end. In some ways being diagnosed with a terminal disease may be a blessing, as you then have the time to settle your affairs and make the transition easier for your survivors. It's never easy either way.
IMO your affairs should always be in order to some extent. I worked for someone who died suddenly in a car crash, and his widow had all sorts of problems relating to things he owned before they were married, just because he didn't have a will. The guy who killed him (driving a logging truck stoned off his ass) got out of jail on a $50,000 bond, but she had to put up a $600,000 bond for the company just to sign our paychecks.
