Minimum wage

For those that are going to be effected my the minimum wage increase, will you be raising prices? If so when?

I am thinking about going up in price this summer. That will be 2 years from my last increase. We usually go up about every 2 years anyway.

I just raised my prices by $1 across the board effective 12/1. I haven't had a single complaint. If I were you, I would raise them now . During the winter months we see more infrequent washers who have no idea what the price was the last time they were at your wash.

just went up on ss bay pricing and vacs are coming as soon as i get a warm enough day for the decals to stick to the vacs!

I'm not ever going to fret about price increasing anymore; none of my utility suppliers etc ever sheds a tear.

Chicago has implemented a 2 stage minimum wage.

Effective now. If you have a new contract with the City you must pay a minimum of $13.00. It will be interesting to see what happens when the City vehicle washing contracts come up for renewal. They currently pay $7.00 for a Full service wash. (The contract is several years old) and I heard one operator told them that with the new wage requirement they would need to pay $27.00 per car. Surprising the $13.00 wasn't qualified for contracts over $XXX or employees / sales over YYY.

They have another across the board increase which may be challenged in court stating all employees in the City must be paid a minimum of $10.00.

Have operators considered offsetting other "Benefits". For instance, and this is just an example. If the increase mandates an across the board increase of $1.00 per hour (because all employees will want more if the new people get $10.00 people with more tenure want to be paid more. ) an empoyee working 2000 hours a year gets a $2000 raise. That same employee may get a 2 week paid vacation, and a 1 week holiday bonus. This is an off set of 120 Hours. At the minimum wage rate this is $1200.00. If this is eliminated the net increase in cost for the minimum wage meployee is $800.00.

Plug in your own wage rates and bonus items to see how the offset works.

In the Puget Sound area, Seattle and Tacoma there is a movement to raise the minimum wage to $15.00 an hour. The people of Sea-Tac, that’s the area around Sea-Tac airport just voted to raise the minimum wage to $15.00 an hour, it went into effect last year.

$15/hr is pretty steep. As an employer, are better applicants coming through the door as a result of higher wage? Is this hurting the high schoolers in the job market for the first time with no real skills or track record?

If only government understood those wages will lose jobs, but they don't want a higher wage for the people.
Higher wages pay more taxes, more taxes is what they want. If government is for any cause it must make them money, and also the inverse.
