Lorex camera cable end replacement?

Waxman

Super Moderator
I have a lorex camera with some corrosion inside the female connector for the cat five cable. Has anyone ever had any success splicing in a field terminable connector on one of these Lorex cameras? do they even make such a thing?

I think the camera itself is probably fine but some water got into the connector and made a bit of corrosion happen in there. I cleaned it up as best I could, but I still can't get the camera working. I have replaced it with a new camera, so that's no big deal but I'd still like to be able to use this hundred dollar camera and it seems silly that some corrosion in the cable end is going to make this in operable permanently.

Is it just a cat 5 cable? The pass through ez connectors work great and are definitely worth the extra $ to avoid frustration

yes, it is a cat five cable. I think what you're talking about is the connector for the male end. What I need is the female end that is attached to the short wire coming from the camera. It's actually the camera cable that the cat five plugs into.

Well I guess they make an ez-rj for the female end now too, though the keystone jacks are super easy to use already, so who knows if that would be worth the tool price

It's garbage waxman. The wires are not color coded if you cut the female end off and lorex only uses I believe 4 or 5 wires instead of all 8 for a rj 45. You'll be playing a guessing game on what wires go where and what order.

As long as your connections are in dry environment the cameras last forever. In my auto bays I only mount the cameras on the ceiling or a wall against the equipment room and make the connection in there.

I have a few boxes for vacuums I had to splice in the ground. Completely filled each 4x4 box with about $35 worth dielectric grease and never had any issues. Also use dielectric in the connection if it's in a wet environment where the connection is made.

Ive got about 12 cameras brand new at my shop. Shoot me a DM with your address I'll send you one. You will need to re crimp your male end as that fitting is probably corroded too.

Now that im thinking a little more it may not be that the lorex cable wires are not color coded but you can not see what went to what pin on the female rj45. Its been a while but either way I just remember I tried but it couldn't be done.

thank you. I bought three new cameras last week because I want to put up one more outside and I needed one for my automatic bay.

i'm going to try cleaning the corroded connector a little bit more and see if I can get it to work. the male and was fine after a little bit of cleaning because I used it with a new camera and got it working.

I added the dielectric grease to the connection as well like you suggested.
