We are getting ready to implement a credit card/gift card type system for use in our automatic bay and three self-serve bays. We have a few questions as we plan the process and are hoping that those who have already done this would be willing to share some information with us.

1. What can be expected as far as the transition for our customers? We now have tokens and will still accept those but would like people to migrate to the cards. If you have made this transition, what were the problems you experienced? How did you deal with them? What would you do differently?

2. Did you give out written brochures/information to people? How did you get the word out?

We also are considering developing a monthly wash club, VIP club and fleet cards.

3. If you have any of these, what prices do you charge and how did you come to them? Please note that we are not looking at doing unlimited washes per month because we are unattended and cannot monitor that only one car is being used on the pass. We are looking at charging a price per month and then giving them a monetary amount on the card to use for that month. Any thoughts or ideas on that?

4. Do you do ETF or automatically take from a customer's credit card each month and if so, how do you do it? Is it a cumbersome process?

5. What programs do you have and what incentives do you offer? Are there programs that have you tried but didn’t work well?

We appreciate any insight or tips that you might have. Thanks very much!

Hamilton has a very good system. There's a unit that can replace a DRS changer and will allow them to purchase a prepaid card in any amount, paid for by cash or credit card, and they can recharge it right at the machine or online. Fleet cards can be set up to be billed automatically. I'd do one if the hardware wasn't so expensive, and I don't want to have to promote it. We have the D.A.N. in place and I like it and what it can do.

Thanks MEP. We have seen the DAN system and it is good. We actually have chosen the system and are now looking for info on how to best transition into it. Lots of things to think about and we want to be as prepared as possible!
