I have an IDX 411E timer that is currently used in my Vac-It-up system that is not working.

Input power is 120V at pin #5. Output on pin #6 should be zero when it is "waiting" for a coin signal, however, it is reading 113v all the time. Once the timer receives the coin signal the output on pin #6 goes to 120v, then back to 113v after the timer stops.

I am thinking that the timer is bad, yet, why would the vac motor not be running "all" the time if the output on pin #6 is 113v all the time?

Do I have a bad motor, or is the timer bad?

Does the motor start at all when voltage to pin 6 is 120v? Are you running a relay to power the vac motor or does the timer supply voltage/power to the motor?

If the motor does not turn on even when the timer shows 120v at pin 6, check the voltage at the motor. If you get 120v at the motor and it doesn't start, sounds like you have a bad motor. But you also shouldn't be seeing 113v at pin 6 when the timer is idle. Check this against another timer for comparison.

Are you testing #6 to ground or to common?

This sounds more like a wiring issue than a timer issue (unless the timer is staying on).

I am testing pin 6 to ground. I also tested the timer from another bay right next to this one and it is reading zero volts when off and 120 v when on pin 6 to ground.

Disconnect wire @ pin 6 and retest. If you still get 113v at pin 6 when idle your timer is bad.

While you have pin 6 disconnected, you can jump pin 6 wire to the 120v line to test the motor. Then you'll know whether the motor is good or not.

Call Mike Oliver at IDX if you need any information about anything made by IDX. The 411E Timers I believe are repairable. About 25 years ago we installed mercury relays on the timed load from the timer. This takes the motor load off the timer, I can’t recall when we last had a timer fail.
