Idtech-IDV68-10111 card reader going into tamper mode

I purchased new Hamilton Goldline with the Idtech card reader that is fastened to the outside of door 1.5 years ago and the reader went into tamper mode which I now know that can happen for lots of reasons including getting hit with something. What frustrates me is thier fixable but the cost is almost as much as just replacing it and the wait is weeks for the repair. Has this happened to anyone else? Were these card readers designed to fail? Has anyone found a better reader or fix to this problem? Thanks in advance

Happened to us a few times for NO reason. Nothing was tampered with however we suspect a power fluctuation in the area was the cause. Fortunately for us the units were still under warranty so Hamilton swapped them out for other units they had repaired. Frustrating for sure as we understand your pain and frustration. There are other readers that are more reliable but not a simple item to change as Hamilton must approve and support the manufacturer. All manufacturers try to protect their turf. Only alternative in your case is a Cryptopay upgrade kit (sold by KR) but that has its own challenges (ie Hamilton will not give you any support for it and it will not work with the DAN). That said we find CryptoPay more responsive than most manufacturers and more bulletproof. The IDTech readers are heads and shoulders better than the previous CC readers they used.
