My new D&S i5000 gantrys weight a lot less than my 5000 - does that mean the hyd hose is under less pressure/stress? Also, the new units use auto tranny fluid to remain thinner in the cold - does that too mean less stress on hyd hoses in cold temps.

I'm hoping to blow fewer hyd hoses with these new units.
 
The hoses blow due to wear, not the pressure. If you inspect them regularly, you'll learn the telltale signs that a hose is about to break and you can replace it before that happens.
 
Good point. I guess that's why they nearly always blow in the bay where they move a lot, rather than in the ER...thankfully.

My new IBA hoses run across the underside of the ER ceiling then across the top of the ceilings on 2 ss bays...I can envision a nasty mess if one of them blows. This is why I always harp on people to keep my breaker box lids closed, in case we blow a hose in the ER (as I've done before) so that it can't easily spray into the breaker boxes causing a short.
 
Have you tried the water based fluid? I have not, but evertime I have a hose burst on my 5000 in Burnet, I intend to due to the mess it leaves....
 
Make sure you don't fill the hydraulic unit more than you need to and you won't have much of a mess. If you set it to manual and siphon fluid out until it shuts off, then fill it only enough to make it come back on, you'll only lose about a pint if a hose breaks.

Oh, so that's your wash! Is it the one by the Sonic, or by the airport across from Hammand Galloway? I copied my backup light off of the latter. Nice wash, I've used both several times.

Hey, if it ever comes up, pass along this complaint to the chamber. For many years my wife and I brought our motorhome to the Bluebonnet festival. We always got reservations at GH RV park because I could then walk across the highway to the airshow. Every year that was one of our trips...up until 2 years ago when, for whatever goofy reason, the city stopped taking RV park reservations and went to first-come-first serve. I wrote a letter to the city telling them that would cause them to lose my business every year, because I'm not going to pack up and bring my motorhome all the way from West Texas, hoping there's a spot for me when I get there. It's a terrible decision they made - I haven't been back since.

Btw, I lived in Liberty Hill for awhile - just about built a wash there.

This works, I've done it before. Just monitor your fluid temp. It will probably be fine in an iba, but in a tunnel where the system could run all day it may be a problem. That's how I setup my tunnel's hyd system along with water based fluid. It worked (I no longer own the place) fine for me but my equipment was run by several power packs. I did not use the water base fluid on the conveyor. A line break there was below the floor line.
