Hubbell Metal Halide Lights

Just installed 175w MH Lights in the bays about 6 months ago.
One went out, I tried a new bulb, didn?t work.

Its hooked 120v, I checked the socket without the lamp in and it reads 266v.

Is this a bad ballast?

Also is Hubbell still making the 175w MH?

Online both Dultmeier and Kleen-Rite show only 150w.
Both catalogs list 175w, no 150w.

Looked on Hubbell?s website, they only show a 150w.

Wanted to get the whole light rather than buying just the ballast, but I am wondering if they only have 150w now.

The ballast steps up the voltage. Don't stick anything into that socket while it's powered.

Check the ballast - it may be 150 watts and not 175. They don't interchange.

Check 1000bulbs.com for 150w bulbs if you determine that's what you need. Hubbell should have a 1-year warranty, so if it's bad they'll replace it.

I think the 150w are the new pulse starts. They provide the same or more light than the old 175w. Probe start fixtures will no longer be available after the end of 2009, I believe. Bulbs and ballasts are not interchangeable between probe and pulse. I just installed a few 400 watt pulse start lot lights. They are really bright. Book says equiv to 460 watts. Ain't new technology great?

If I would have know of the PS lights I would have put them in instead, I don't recall them being available when I ordered these, although KR probably had to get rid of there current stock so...

Are you saying that I shouldn't even put the bulb in while it's powered? Regardless, I've done it like a thousand times:confused:
It's not recommended, but I do it too. I've actually seen a metal halide bulb explode when it came on, and I wouldn't want that to happen while I'm screwing in the bulb.

It was the capacitor.

The lights were all 175w. So the ballasts would all be for the 175w.

I bought in September 08 the PS lights were not available at KR until Jan 09.
