How to pay a greeter

Emerald in NJ

Hi guys,
I am looking for some suggestions on how to pay a greeter. I currently have a guy who gets an hourly wage plus a percentage of his upsells. We are converting over to a new tunnel controller and greeter station and this will eliminate the paper tickets he usually notes his upsells on. He is resisting the new system and clinging to his old ways for fear that his commissions won't be properly recorded.
I have a few ideas. I am thinking I will pay his commissions as a percentage of total sales. I can look at my past records and determine what he was earning as a percentage of the gross on average for the past year.
Does anybody have a better suggestion?
thanks

Depending on what reporting options your new controller has it should be possible to keep the same system. We use DRB carwatch at 2 of our locations and sitewatch at the other one and it will keep track of their individual upgrades. Although we do not use a "greeter terminal" everything is set up so that when punched in at the cashier we can track upgrades for individual products for each greeter.

If you can track for each individual product, you may want to assign a set commission per item as opposed to a percentage of sales. This way you can weight your top wash package and upgrades with higher margins to increase incentive. Not only will your greeter be able to earn more, but if done correctly you will benefit just as much.
