I run two washes in Texas on EverWash. Like any app-based membership, the plan lives on the member's phone and nothing ties it to the car. I suspected sharing was happening, but I had no way to know how much.
I built a system (Wash Attest) that checks each member scan against the car that actually pulled in. It works with the cameras you already have at your pay stations — no new cameras, no LPR system to buy. It compares the plate and vehicle on the membership against what the camera saw on that scan. They match, it clears on its own. They don't, it gets flagged for me to review. Warnings and cancellations go through EverWash.

First month: about 1 in 13 member washes was the wrong car. Shared plans, a second vehicle on one membership, a friend on someone else's account.
Second month: misuse fell to 3.3%, more than half, over about 1,400 washes. Wash volume didn't drop.
My read is that it fell so fast because members figured out someone was checking, along with the warnings and cancellations. New members still test their luck, but the repeat abusers seem to have mostly stopped. It's only two months of data, so I'm watching to see if it holds.
Full disclosure: I built this, it runs at my own washes, and I'm now setting up a small group of other EverWash washes as pilots — 60 days free while I prove it beyond my own sites. Message me if you want in. There's a short demo video at Wash Attest Demo.
Happy to answer questions about how it works or what the numbers looked like.
