How many hours do you put in at work?

Just looking to see how much time each of us spends at the car wash. Of course this is going to vary based on the number of sites or how big your site is but I'm curious to see what kind of workweek everyone has.

(And would you trade this for a "normal" 9-5?)

I put anywhere between 15 and 90 hours per week!!! This week was about a 80 hr week. busy breakdowns and getting ready to go away for a few days of golf.

I do about 100 hours a year. I also have a guy that is there every day for about an hour doing trash, money, and chemicals.

The "At the Wash" qualifier is an issue. I do lots of stuff off site since I have 4 locations. Plenty of info comes in from the net and by phone and I do lots of stuff that way. With QB on line I can draft checks from any computer and then print and mail when I get on site. I also monitor cameras from off site. Trading for 9-5 would be tough because I have one of those as well. It's also not a 5 day a week business. On top of all that answers will vary by SS, SS+ IBA, FS, EE, etc.

I'm a first time, new owner of a 4/2/Dog Wash since July of last year. I've been putting in 6-8 hour days, 7 days a week till about a few weeks ago. I needed to learn as much as I could, as well as work the kinks out of a place that sat dormant for nearly 18 months.

As of yesterday, I think I've found someone to live onsite and oversee the car wash on a daily basis, and full time attending it Friday, Saturday & Sunday. I hope it works out as I have a young family that travels a lot and frankly that's more important.

Pretty interesting responses so far. I'm a full time college student and I put in about 10 hours a week as a "manager" of sorts at my father's car wash (9 SS bays, 110' tunnel, 20 vacs, detail, 100+ machine laundromat, on top of other things). We're always busy as we do everything we can to do our own work on site and not hire outside contractors. Sometimes it makes me wonder what kind of time we could save if we were to give up on that but I know that I couldn't

I took over a small wash many years ago and spent 5-6 hours a day every day for a couple months until I got it where I wanted it, then I could knock out the cleanup in 30 minutes a day and only hung around longer on a nice Saturday. It wasn't mine but I could easily have made more than at a 9-to-5 job if it was. Nowadays I spend 2-3 hours a day, although I try to take a day off during the week.

I am unusual carwash owner 3/1, & am a full-time teacher & bb coach. My wash also has a nice Ice business.

I work about 2 hrs/day M/W/Th, & about 3---6 hrs on sat / Sun = 18---20 hrs / week, but dammmmm it feels like I do a lot more.

I work on site from 8am-5pm (ish) every day but wednesday ( my day off). i usually get to work by 7:30 and out by 5:30-6. I was working 7 days a week for a year or so but that was too much so I started taking wed. off.

This is for an operation which consists of: 2 SS, 1 IBA car wash. Full service detail shop ( 3 bay ). Used car lot. I also bought an 8 plex apartment building, which was an awesome investment. I want to do more apartments because when you've been in the car cleaning business as long as I have (since 1985), owning apartments is like a dream job!

4 SS locations.

5-6 hours on Monday, Thursday and Saturday

I wouldn't go back to a 9-5. I quit the well paying job I had because the car washes were paying MUCH better.

I have a 5-1 and a 6 bay. I put in 45 to 70 hours a week. This includes about an hour each day in the office to keep up on books.
