ok..this is really a noob question. Which adapters/couplings do i need to patch up HP 3/8" or 1/2" hose that has crack in it? im looking at KR and so confuse male pipe rigid and female JIC. I need to crimp this?
what about the female pipe swivel adapter?

why dont they use pvc pipes be much easier on me :D
 
I don't think i would patch a HP hose that has a crack in it, the possibility of more weak spots is too great. A patch should only be temporary -like to get you thru the weekend.

With the more common HP hydraulic hose actually running over a couple hundred psi --- you could use reusable hydraulic fittings & get by without crimping. Like IB Washin alluded to there are a lot of variables. We only do it in an area where it would be more difficult to replace the hose &/or it is not anywhere near where the extra splice could affect anything else.

No offense but --- your HP & PVC specs as the same criteria ---makes your post sound a bit inconconsistent in terms of psi compatibility to those us possibly more experienced.

Swivel adaptor hose fittings are mainly just for possible ease of installation so you can tighten the fitting up.

This is one of the things I ran into when I bough my wash back in January. I knew a lot of my HP hoses were old and would need replaced sooner or later. After having my local John Deere service center make me a 2 foot HP hose (Cost of $25 bucks) I decided to source my own HP hose, ends, and a Hydraulic Crimping Machine. What I learned is, a crimping machine or the dies for that machine will only crimp ends made for that die, or visa versa. The ends at John Deere are not the same as the ones I bought online or ones that will work with my crimper. There is a pretty close limit as to the finished crimped diameter of the fitting so you know the right grip is applied to the hose and the fitting won't "Blow" off. In my case there is about a .010" limit after the fitting is crimped. So in this case you'll want to do some homework to make sure the hose, fittings, anmd crimper are all compitable.

I try to stay away from JIC ends as these are straight thread and use a compression style fit of 37°. I like to use pipe thread to keep it simple. My HP hose is 3/8 ID and the hose fittings on each end are either 3/8 pipe or 3/8 pipe swivel, depending on apllication. This will keep things as simple for you as possible. Hope this helps...

To answer your question a bit further, you could use this for repair:

But like others have expressed, only use in a pinch for repair. If the HP hose is cracked, it must be old and the rest of the hose is questionable. The entire length of hose needs to be replaced.

Also there is a huge difference between HP hose and PVC. Most HP hose is rated for 3000psi or above and pvc has a rating of a lot less. Its not advisable to use PVC in a high pressure application. It is designed mostly for city pressure applications.
 
I've discovered a great way to do an emergency repair of a HP hose. You guys will laugh at me until you get in a pinch one Friday night and try it. Cost about $2 in parts. I will try post pics soon.
 
well i call the installers out and sure enough they used reusable hose fitting and couplings. they replace the oscillator boom hose though, no patching there. geez these hose goes out so fast, kinda make me wonder if pressure is too high for these hoses or these hoses i have must come from a bad batch.

the pvc comment is a joke guys lol. i was commenting that i could patch pvc but not hp hose...well not this time anyway. :D
 
where do you guys buy reusable hose fittings? KR list for $11.45 , these guys only charge me $4.75 for 3/8" and $7.30 for 1/2".
 
Does the oscillator hose have to flex back and forth? That will greatly shorten the life of a steel-braided hose.
