I'm a big fan of The History Guy on Youtube. He has a video on the history of vending machines that I thought some of you would enjoy.

I was fascinated by the LINK'S COVERAGE of both the history & the current reality of vending in Japan. Of course the current reality also includes % of payment methods etc. The following 8-23-19 article (https://www.thejakartapost.com/life/2019/08/22/in-high-tech-japan-cash-is-still-king.html) kind of touches on "incentive approach" for payment methods which of course includes laundromats in Japan (https://jpninfo.com/25708).

I am hoping someone can show me different for their rural areas ... but it appears that because of the price of real estate .... self service car washes are not that numerous in Japan. Lots of automated ones though (https://www.city-cost.com/blogs/City-Cost/MqBAz-money_transportation).

I recall a coin operated car wash trash can being advertised years ago. I thought it was silly, then, but I'd probably buy some now! Does anyone remember those, or have them?

Seems silly to me. I doubt any of my customers would pay to use a trash can when they already just throw it around the can now.

I agree that it's silly, but I also think it might make people realize that trash is not free, and the car wash is not a trash dump. I have had good luck with my local police departments tracking down people who have left bulk trash.
