highway markers for entrance guides

I installed blue highway markers to aid in entry to my wash. The installation looked really nice when I was done. However, I used the double stick asphalt pads to secure them. They are now moving and shifting about. It looks like I need to use an epoxy to secure them down. Has anyone had any experience with this...good or bad

Yep I know. I just hate to shut the wash down for 36 hours while it cures I'm looking for something a bit faster setting and can be used in a damp environment. I'm seeing some marine epoxies that may fit the bill. Still searching...

In the early 1990’s, I was an environmental manager for a county that was required by federal law to implement random air quality vehicle inspections.

This meant working with county sheriff deputies and pulling vehicles off the highway like a DUI check point.

This meant getting motorist to pull into a single waiting line and directing them to proceed to stop point for the inspection.

Through trial and error we learned it was much easier to get vehicles aligned properly by using the technique that highway construction crews use to reduce two lanes to one.

Place traffic cones so they form a funnel just like a conveyor correlator yoke.

Since the POS for in-bay is about 10’ linear or more from bay door, maybe some painted lines or traffic cones arranged in a V pointing towards entrance bay door would better help customers to point their vehicle.

Washworld now uses a new multi-purpose adhesive made by Powers Fasteners called PowerStick. It is a combination adhesive / sealant, and sets strong in about 2 hours. Fully cures in 24 hours. Comes in a caulking style tube. Works a lot better than the epoxy or the asphalt adhesive they used to use. In our installs I usually put these on first thing in the morning, and wash cars in the bay by noon.

My guide rails have bright yellow tape on them and they still drive over them instead of between them. I made small stainless steel brackets out of a piece of 1" wide flat bar aboiut 4" long. I welded a piece of st.st. pipe nipple with a nut welded on over a hole in the side of the nipple. I put a fiberglass marker in the nipple - like you can buy at the hardware store to mark your driveway for snowplowing - then hold it straight and tighten the bolt that I put in the nut. Then I slip a piece of yellow hose over the guide rod. They stick up above a vehicles fender and give customers a visual guide. I have them anchored into the pad with st.st. concrete anchors at the maximum width that can fit between my gantry. When a nitwit jumps the rail and runs them over I can replace it in a couple minutes.

Are you getting the PowerStick from WashWorld? How many markers can you put down per tube. Great info...thanks for sharing!

We get it from Washworld when we order equipment packages. They send 2 tubes with an order of 40 reflectors. We usually have almost a whole tube left when we are done. We have never had a reflector come off the floor since switching.

Locktite 2 part epoxy from Lowes. Had the same problem as you. Haven't had one come off since I started using this.

I glued the base back onto a 7 cu.ft. softener tank with that - it took five tubes, but it's on there for good. It set up in about 10 minutes.

I used this http://www.harborfreight.com/propane-torch-with-push-button-igniter-91037.html to dry the floor prior to installation. It will dry the floor in seconds plus heats the concrete making for better initial adhesion. Worked like a charm connected to a 20lb lp tank.

Just be careful not to overheat the concrete. The surface will pop off quite violently.
