What would cause my auto cashier to give me the “Memory Data Altered!” error message this morning? It was working fine yesterday. It’s going to be a pain to reprogram everything. I just don’t want to waste time reprogramming if it’s going to give me the error message again tomorrow.

The same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. One day working fine and the next would lose all the programmed data. The problem was a battery on the controller board. I had to send it in to get it changed.

When you think about it, having to send in a board just to have a battery changed is a poor design issue. Can you imagine if you had to do that with your car/flashlight/computer/ or anything else. They sometime also solder a fuse on boards, again a poor design point.

If it's losing the programming, it's the battery. Some Hamilton models have it soldered to the board, some have a replaceable module.

The only controllers you can replace the BRAM Module on is the ACW-4/5 and the Changer Audit pro controllers, the Goldline controllers the BRAM module is soldered to the board. The purpose of the BRAM module is to hold the memory of the controller. When you replace BRAM module you want to use a Dallas DS1216C BRAM module. When you separate the ramm chip from the top of the BRAM module the memory of the controller will be totally erased. You don’t want to use the Dallas DS1243Y-120 SRAM, they will work but they’ve had a number of issues with the memory when installed in the Hamilton controllers. The memory of Dallas DS1243Y can not be erased, once it's programmed it programmed forever.
