Ginsan Vacuum remotes - programming a universal one?

I took over my wash last year and the previous owner had a universal remote (basic Amazon one) that he used to turn the vac's on for testing. That remote went bad so I'm looking to set up a new one (same basic model), but I'm having trouble programming it.

Following the LED6 timer instructions, this is the result I get:
  1. Hold "setup" button on remote until power button stays on
  2. input "0000" code to tie it to dixmor timer
  3. press power button on remote
  4. Timer shows "0000"
Up to that point everything is working the way I'd expect, but then when I use the numbers on the remote to input the lock code "1234" nothing happens, and then once the "0000" goes away the remote no longer does anything. Bought a second remote just to check and got the same pattern.

Does anyone have experience setting up universal remotes for Ginsan vacuums with LED6 timers? Or another way to temporarily turn on the vacuums just to check them?

Push the power button on the remote. 0000 should show up on the timer display. Press 1234 and the timer should start. If it doesn't then you've entered the wrong code. Reprogram the timer to your code, you do this on the back of the timer.
