Florescent Lights Cause Problems with Sensit Systems

Over the past year some problems were encountered with our vendor's Sensit systems giving very erratic performances; they would work fine for awhile and then go completely bananas. We discussed this with our manufacturer and we tried everything that they suggested. Sometimes it helped and sometimes not. It was very frustrating for us and for our customers!!!! Our own occasional experience with the florescent bulbs we used in our junior vendor and those that came with the bigger machines lead us to question whether the florescent bulbs or ballasts were interfering with the Sensit systems. A florescent bulb which looked perfectly good and worked in a fixture caused erratic operation of the Sensit systems. We found this by taking all the bulbs out in a vendor and getting the Sensit system to work perfectly. We added the bulbs back one at a time to find the bad bulb. We finally started asking our customers to check the florescent bulbs in their vendors. Some reported that they had bulbs out or were flickering badly. We asked them to replace those that were out or flickering and that seemed to fix most of the problems with the Sensit systems.

The new S-3 Sensit systems that were forced on us (the company made S-I and S-2 obsolete) seemed to be especially vulnerable to florescent bulbs. Whether the florescent bulbs are made differently now or the S-3 system has a different design in it, I don't know. I suspect it is a little of both!! Now we only offer LED lights in our vendors, so we don't have these Sensit problems.

Those of you that have priced LEDs know the first cost is very high, but they last a long time. Since we don't have any options left in upgrading our vendors, I wouldn't recommend doing any S-3 conversions on older vendors with out adding the new LED lights in place of the old florescent fixtures. Of course these conversions with LEDs cost more, but we have no other choice. Aaahhhhh, isn't progress wonderful!!!! Unless you are the one paying for it!!!
