Employee Pay

Hi All,

What do you pay your employees? Need a caretaker for a 4 bay SS. Duties will include cleaning the lot, trash, washing down bays, refilling vending machine, recycling tokens, cleaning vacs and filters, small repairs (hoses and swivels). Not more than couple hours per day work.

Where is everyone finding employees? Posting some online page? Posting up at the wash? Etc. Looking to buy a few more and it will be time to add some employees.

Hello everyone

I have an issue at my self-Service car wash one of my bay the high presure water option is not working. Can anyone tell me what maybe wrong or how I can fix that without spending a lot on techincian. Thanks

I pay one guy about $50 per car wash which takes him about 2 hrs. each wash so $25/hr. My weekend guy that mainly does trash pick up, cleans bays, and test equipment I pay $15/hr. He's an older guy so I don't want him up on a ladder.

I did trust one of my guys and had been suspecting something for a while but never took action. Installed hidden cameras and he was getting a handful of quarters from each location at least once sometimes twice a week. Coincidentally, he would hire or subcontract a homeless guy to help him with his duties but funny thing is when I busted him stealing he no longer hired the homeless guy, funny how that works.

I am not a full time car wash operator, even though I should be, but I gave him a key in the event of bill jams or hopper jams in the coin machine. Never will do that again.

I pay $30/day for an attendant to visit the site and do just a cleanup. I take care of repairs and money. It usually takes them less than an hour.
For hourly work it's $15/Hr starting pay.
I would avoid allowing employees access to any money. I pull the money myself once a week. I handle coin and bill jams, which are relatively rare I'm 80%+ credit cards so don't feel overly rushed if a jam occurs.

Do people use a time card app or system to monitor their time and that they are showing up? Or just the trust system and visual inspection that things are clean?

We use Square to pay our helpers which tracks time but often they forget to sign out. I can adjust the numbers but wondered what people do. We tried Jibble to track time but that is not as owner friendly as Square.

I just do a trust system. My weekend guy is good about texting me when he arrives and when he leaves in the event there is something extra I want him to do, for example, clean the vacs. I check my cameras 4 to 5 times during the day just to make sure the lot isn't a mess or a coin jam in the bay (bay is dry for a long period of time)
