Crypto Pay Chargebacks

Just a heads up to folks using crypto pay. I got an email the other day about a chargeback so I looked into it and provided them information to dispute the chargeback. When I went on the myiq site it showed 500 some dollars of chargebacks. Further digging revealed I have a customer who has been disputing every charge they make at my wash. It sounds like they were using a prepaid card. Make sure your myiq system is sending you alerts. I never received any notification for any of those chargebacks. Two hours on the phone with world pay and nothing I can do to get back my five hundred bucks... It sounds like you can set up text alerts so I plan to give that a try. If I would have known earlier I would have turned it into the cops but now the video footage has been overwritten.

Thanks for the info. I'm getting hard copies in the mail of both chargebacks and monthly statements.

Is this an actual dispute or a problem with low pre auth? If you have a low pre auth a person can load an amount just over that and they have free use of your car wash for two hours. They don't have to do anything to dispute, the card company will dispute it. All you will get is the pre auth amount.

Maybe that was the case in this instance. I did only get the pre-authorization amount. Since my vacuums are so cheap and I had a ridiculous amount of calls when the pre authorization was $10 I lowered it. I can’t help but feel that this “customer” knew what they were doing.

Were all those charge backs the same card number? I would assume the person is going to continue doing this. If it were me, I would print a report of that card number and keep it at the wash. Then the next time you get a charge bank with that number hopefully you still have footage and can find who it is by calling police and getting their info. You can show the police the report with the card number on it and maybe they will do something about it. At least you can get them trespassed from your property. Also, raise your pre-auth and change the name of your car wash with Worldpay to "Pre-Auth Car Wash" or at least put Pre-Auth in front of your car wash name. Thank APW for the idea.

If it's the same card being used you can block it by sending cryptopay the necessary info. They need the transaction number, last four digits, date, time, and amount of charge I believe.

If this continues to be a problem with multiple individuals you can have cryptopay change the pre auth grace period down so it pre auths more frequently.

I'm currently at $11 for a pre auth and have finally hit the point where chargebacks have dropped way down. But my calls about the pre auth are up.

I don't think you'll have luck with the police. The guy is swiping and it is approving. It's going to be a tough sell to get a cop to write it up, but you might get lucky in a small jurisdiction or a very proactive cop.

You can have cryptopay lock out a card number. I have done a few when someone chargebacked for no reason. They will never use their card at my washes again.
I was waiting for someone to post this advice. I do this on every chargeback. I get pissed when it says A Gift Card for you. I figure the ones that forget to press stop to end charges pay for my chargebacks.

My max is $20 and auth $20.01. Rather get calls then the feeling of getting violated by assholes that do chargebacks. Only ones I get now are if they spend over $20, I get a "auth not received"' and lose the difference. Any that forget to press stop and do a chargeback, I send a screenshot of the charges and the sign and I win those.

Ok, I am very interested on how to protect my self from chargebacks, the last time I disputed 3 different charge backs I was charge $500 a chargeback dispute. I provide pictures and signage etc and still lost. I sore I would never do it again, I would just take the loss. It has been a while since I have charge backs, most of the time a customer calls and we work it out. However, I was just notified Friday about 2 more charge backs for $80. Two different cards using multiple bays and vacuums on two different days. I do not believe they were prepaid cards, I could be wrong. Looking at the data they did not press the stop button. My current setup is $10 pre-authorization with a $30 max charge. I have a very busy site and I have had to up my max over the years from $15 to $30 as I raise my prices and customer wash time increased.
Who to I need to notify to up my pre authorization charge? Cryptopay or Worldpay?
Can they label the charge as "Pre-Authorization" as stated above to cut down on call inquiring about the charge?
Did I understand the post above that with a charge back you still get to keep the pre-authorization money? So with a $10 pre authorization and a $30 max they will only get $20 back on a dispute?
