Converyor Speed

“I just tie a plastic grocery bag to the brush and have one guy count while another times.”

Ingenuity is great thing.

However, I wouldn’t feel that great about it if my car dealership was using garbage bags instead of one of those fancy tachometer gizmos to measure the speed of my car’s engine.

And, why three people? Sounds like Polish light bulb joke.

Sometimes I cam thrifty and let the same guy who ties on the bag also count or time. Of course I always find a used grocery bag in the trash to use. The difference between cheap and thrifty is that thrifty is what I do, cheap is what you do. (Generic "you" not directed to RJR)

Hold on Gentlemen! Didn't want to that deep into being thrifty or cheap!

A follow up on my conveyor speed question. It's been a week since slowing down the track to 100 CPH. I must say that I'm very happy with the end result. Cars are much cleaner and drier. Actually, now I can think of purchasing a tire shine machine and reduce the labor (towel dryers) at the end of the tunnel. Vertical wraparound (not flexible) do a better job on back of SUV's but Visors on rear still a challenge.

My conveyor is 120 feet, building is 128 feet. The wash process takes 3 minutes from start to finish which used to be 2 minutes.

My future purchase will be an upgrade of wraparounds, tire shine applicator, flash dryer, and spot free rinse.

Thank you all for your help!

Not to change the subject on you but have you considered just increasing or upgrading the dry aid instead of going with a spot free rinse?
We used a DI system and found it to be pricy to keep up with the filters. Its also useless in the winter and pollen months because any water left on the car will pick up road salt or pollen. Ended up disconnecting it 3 years ago and have had very few complaints. We have never towel dried didn't want to start something and be stuck with it.

I understand using a drying aid instead of spot free. If that works for you and your customers that's fine. Any water left on the surface can pick up road salt, pollen or dust if your dryer doesn't do a good job. The main reason for using spot free beside spotting on vehicles not wiped down is that any runoff from jambs or crevices doesn't show up when they drive off.

As the cars come in with snow on them and I slowed the conveyor to allow some melt time I was thinking whether those in warmer climates appreciate how much simpler it is to not have to account for conditions that vary by 100 degrees or more.

Classic example today. Every car is white ... coming in and it's 30 degrees. Running line as fast as possible. Salt is easy to clean and no frozen on dirt issues.
