We had a customer contact us because the e-Port credit card reader in his vendor was erratic in reading the customer's credit card. That means the reader could be dirty or the credit card mag stripe was damaged. So we called the manufacturer of the reader for information on how we could clean the reader. A damaged credit card mag stripe is another matter.

Here is what is suggested to clean the reader: wrap a paper towel over the edge of your credit card and wet the paper towel with a spot of rubbing alcohol about 1-inch square on both sides of your card and then swipe the card through the reader. Do this 2-4 times to clean the reader.

Hopefully it will make the reader work in a consistent manner.

When I got my credit card acceptors, they gave me an alcohol saturated cleaning card in a sealed packet. After use it dried out, but I kept it, and now I just put more alcohol on it each time and use it over again. Just slide it in a few times and it works good.
