Changing belts on Mars

Is there a trick to changing the belts on a Mars validator? I can't figure out how to do it. Thanks.
 
We had a Mars that needed to be upgraded for the $5 bill and needed new belts. I sent it to Randy here on the forum and he fixed it up like new.
