I have a brand new controller.
brand new Etowah valley relay
Recently repaired refurbished hopper (2 months ago)
Repaired refurbished mars validator (2 months ago)

Trying to figure out where my issue is. The controller or validator won’t even error after giving wrong amount of coins.

any help is greatly appreciated

Would help to know brand and model of changer. Are your settings in controller and mars validator correct? Who refurbished the hopper? Some require the coin counting switch to be adjusted to count outgoing coins properly

What brand bill changer are we talking about? How much of an over pay are you getting? The problem more than likely is the payout switch in the Hopper. Who rebuilt your Hopper? It's probably not the controller, the validator or the relay box. Hamilton has come out with a new Hopper payout switch that is really easy to install.

Oh boy now we are getting somewhere. Who rebuilt the Hopper? Is the Hopper dispensing more coins than it should but the counter is right on? If it is you have a switch problem. There are 2 micro switches inside the Hopper, one switch runs the coin counter and the other switch counts the coins dispensed for the controller. What coin are you dispensing from this Hopper Quarters or Tokens? How many extra coins are being dispensed?
Pictures of the inside of the Hopper would be nice.

It is triggered by 5$ bills. It’s pretty random. Will run correctly for a few then shorts 2 quarters or 10 it’s pretty random. Sometimes works. Sometimes too few. Always too few.

causes no error at all to stop from accepting more bills.

I'd say you have a bad Payout switch that's causing the coins fall the wrong way once they are counted, instead of falling out of the Hopper they are falling back in. It's a simple fix, replace the switch with a #100-0395 payout switch kit or contact whoever rebuilt your Hopper.
