I have one phone line that we use for our credit card machine and it used to be used by our security system with dial up internet so we could view our cameras over the web. It was slow but it worked fine. Our cameras have all been connected to a new system that has a LAN port to view the cameras over the web but how can we use our dial up internet to view the system remotely? If I install a pc with a modem to connect to the internet and connect that to the new camera system I believe I can view the cameras remotely but then how with the cc reader work? Also if the dial up connection gets disconnected will I have to reconnect it manually? I don't have the old system anymore and I'm not sure where to go with this. I can't get broadband internet and I don't want to get another phone line especially since I don't know how well the new camera system will work over dialup anyway. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

If you don't want the credit card system interfered with while you're viewing the video, your only option is a second phone line or broadband internet.

No, the cable company said they would run one and install the equipment needed for Internet if I pay for it up front. They estimate between 5 and 10 thousand dollars but they said that could vary greatly. It is available but not really an option for me right now.
Can you get a wireless internet connection? The cell carriers should all offer it, as long as they have ok coverage in your area. Also, here in dallas, there is also fixed wireless from a few providers like Airband or towerstream. They are pretty expensive though relative to what you are looking for, I am afraid.

Based on my experience with Xtralogic Remote with Verizon ... I notice that the connection is not maintained for hour after hour without manually reconnecting from time to time. Thanks for the link though because it appears that it is another remote viewer that includes audio which is helpful for instant alarm notification. Also I am wondering on how much data usage would be required if the connection was maintained continuously. Verizon now has a 2 Gig data limit without paying more per month.
Is Mufwapo's credit card machine going to be able to connect to the dedicated (for that cc processing purpose) smartphone without extra specific equipment from the cell phone provider? I notice that at the Verizon store they showed me docking equipment (internet access) last Friday that required a different plan if I remember right. Maybe with the smartphone's Bluetooth there is a way to reliably convert the CC interactive info back & forth to the remote computer for processing ... at this point Mufwapo & myself & possibly others could be wondering on the tech details of making the smartphone-remote desktop approach work in that way.

Worked in this area for many years. There may be some equipment and routers that can do what you are looking to do (like a Netgear FVS338). You would put the alarm system at the head of the phone line chain, then the CC modem then the FVS338 and configure your router to dialup only. However, do you really want to run you system that way? I would not.
The 1st problem is that the dialup will not give you enough throughput to watch your video live or use any of the functionality. 2nd, it cumbersome and problematic. Lastly, landlines are not meant to be off-hook full-time and would eventually burn coils at the phone company. So you could expect long phoneline outages.
My solution would be to bite the bullet and go broadband. Sounds like cable and DSL are not great options. You may be able to do a Ethernet dedicated circuit (I can do it at my wash for $170/mth). There are the fixed wireless operators that require an antenna and install. Finally there are the cell companies (4G). You can buy their 4G routers http://www.verizonwireless.com/wcms/consumer/devices/4g-lte-router.html...some have voice.
Be aware that 4G voice is not landline voice (different codecs) and so your modem might not work. So you would keep your landline if it doesn't work with your CC modem, or convert your CC system from dialup to IP.

This is just for security video? It gets old watching it fast! I wouldn't bother. 
But seriously..... does anyone around you have high speed internet? Make a friend and share. Outdoor wifi antennas, ap and repeaters have become almost free compared to what they use to cost. Or purchase another phone line.... stuff works over dial up. It's just painful.
