YOu should definitely attend the Car Wash College Maintenance program if you intend to do this. Although intended for tunnel opertors, the info will help you as well.
Woohoo I have my first problem so the Laser 4000 is down I will post the issue in the IBA section
This is the type of thing you all have mentioned about doing this part time. I will not be able to be there for 6 more hours and I have no idea of how many customers this will affect, I am hoping not too many, I hope I can solve the problem. We will see
That's part of the problem with being so unavailable during the day. Six hours down is a long time, and Lasers are down a lot. You will very quickly lose your customer base if you can't keep the machine up 99% of the time.
I use this as an indicator of our customers' loyalty: the rare times our Vector is down, customers will ask me how long it'll be out. Considering there's a Laser less than 100 yards away and on the same patch of concrete and they'd rather come back later for the Vector than use the Laser, I know we have something better to offer.
It took my girlfriend and I a total of 37 minutes to clean the wash this morning. She washed down the bays and I cleaned the lot and dumped the garbage. Checked the levels of the soap tanks on my way out the door.
A surveillance system with a couple of cameras, including one in the equipment room, with the ability to watch the wash remotely via computer would help you out tremendously.
My clean-up/maintenance guy works about 20 hours per week and I work approx. 15 hours per week. Surveillance helps in that I can spot a serious problem and get over to the wash to make a repair or shut an auto down.

It does, and not just from being able to see what's going on. I can now track almost all license plates and see almost every inch of the lot. The cameras are conspicuous, and a lot of the problems, mainly drug users rolling blunts in the bays, have stopped. I caught a guy filling the dumpster and called his company to pay for an extra trash pick-up. It'll be a long time before they actually pay for themselves, but it has helped a lot overall.
