Blowing not sucking

Earl Weiss

Well-known member
Hooked up a new fragrance hose. Done it dozens of times.

Instead of sucking from the bottles air is blowing back into the bottles.

Thought they mismarked the air line, but tried the other 3. Same issue.

Lines do not seem plugged because I put each one in turn into the compressor outlet fitting and they seemd to blow out.

Ideas?

I do not own one of these machines, but my first thought was a bad check valve some where? Assuming there are checks in use?

Sounds like an atomizer problem. Do you have a welder’s tip cleaner? Make sure discharge hole on the atomizer is free of restrictions. As a last resort, replace the new atomizer with the old one as long as it was working when taken out of service.

Don't have a welder tip cleaner. Woul;d a small wire work?

It sounds like a bad atomizer. I got one from Fragramatics once that did the same thing even though it let air through on all lines.

I would also say your atomizer is bad or plugged. Sometimes when a particular fragrance won't spray, I cover the atomizer with my thumb and it forces the air back though whichever fragrance you have selected dislodging any junk stuck in the solenoid.

I wouldn't think a new atomizer would be clogged. I know what Coleman charges for a new hose; I wouldn't take a chance ruining it when they'll exchange it for another new one. If you go "sawing" on it they won't replace it under warranty.

I am going to use a piece of wire from a twist tie to see if perhaps the orifice is not open enough.

FWIW I just had another one not sucking a selection. Tried the finger over the tip thing and it didn't work as well as coonecting the supply hose direct to the compressor. Opened it up and found some crud in one hole. First time for this on a coleman in over 20 years. Still have to try it. I'll report back.

Earl, I'm not sure what kind of frangrance machine you have. I was just assuming you have Fragramatics like myself. The thumb over the tip doesn't work all the time, but since it requires no effort, it's always the first thing we check right after making sure the bottle isn't empty:mad:
