Best Type of Solenoid for Weep System.

What type of NO solenoids are best suited for a weep system in a SS?
Your experience with Dema, Asco, etc., diaphragm or piston.
Also I am using a Dixmor Weep Mizer.

I use Dema O473 for weep, which is a diaphragm solenoid with a stainless seat. The O412 would work fine for one winter, then the next it would stick on the first time it was needed. I've had no issue with the O473. Asco is good in regards to not sticking, but the seat is brass and erodes, at which point you have to replace the whole valve.

The only valve I recommend is the ACSO. I use a ?? ASCO 8210G34 Normally open valve, the 3/8? ASCO 8210G33 will also work if you are only weeping 4 bays . The first ASCO 8210G34 I installed was in 1991, it?s still in service today, never been touched. I?ve used the DEMA a few times and found them to not last as long as the ACSO.

Interestingly, all the Asco valves on our Vector failed within the first year, mostly failing to open fully. I replaced them with Dema diaphragm valves and they've been completely trouble-free for the last five years.

The Demas I wouldn't recommend (and is probably what Randy tried) is the pilot-operated piston type, i. e. the O412.

I've had reasonably good luck with GC. Never used Dema diaphragm solenoid, but have had bad luck with other demas

In one of my locations I have been using the dema 413p, and like mep said it would last about 1 year. Not worth the hassle when you are talking about freeze-ups.

Also it is mounted vertically and found out today that this is not a great orientation for a piston valve.

Anyway I ordered the Dema 0473p to give it a try. I think the ss seat will help allot.

I also have Asco and they have been in service the longest, they are also the most expensive.
