Anyone else considering a DVD Kiosk?

Hey guys,

Has anyone else here considered buying a DVD Kiosk and putting it in somewhere? I am in the process of getting a business plan finished to do so, but was wondering if anyone else had ever thought of doing it.

Thanks,

There was a thread some time back about it, but it didn't get very far. I know there isn't a 24-hour DVD rental place anywhere around our wash, but I have seen someone at a McDonald's around 3 am renting from them.

It seems like a fairly expensive and complicated machine to try and make a profit at $1 a rental.

In Arkansas they are in most of the McDonald's and Kroger's. There is usually a Waiting line. I would love to own one.

There's a local grocery store chain that has them, but I rarely see anyone using them.

I use Netflix myself.

At $1 a rental, it would seem hard to make a profit. There must be some large late fees if you don't return the video. Has anyone read the fine print on the rental machines? What are the late fees?

I'll try and go look today - I know it requires a credit card, and I assume it bills you $1 a day until you return it, and there's probably a cap at which point it "writes off" the disk.

I thought I'd share this: there is a Redbox DVD rental kiosk outside a drugstore that I stop by once in a while, and on any Friday or Saturday night there is a line of five or six people in front of it. This may be affected by the fact that there are many, many apartments around it, and the nearest DVD rental store is five miles away.

Good idea - a lot of people I know would rather buy a DVD than have to worry about late fees on a rental. I'm sure DVDs purchased in bulk would be cheaper. The difference, though, is that a rental kiosk would have a pretty large selection. If you didn't keep a large, rotating selection I would think sales would taper off very quickly.
