    Goodbye and thank you

ACF Members, Just sold off the last of all my washes - time to retire. I wanted to thank all of the members for their insight, contributions and support over the years that I have been a member. I have found the forum to be an indispensable tool for owners/operators and I am grateful for all...

    Blast from the past

I found this patent drawing online. I actually saw one of these washes in operation in the late 1970's/early 1980's. I'm not sure how widespread these machines were, but the one I saw was in Northern PA. http://www.freepatentsonline.com/3731332.pdf

    Lighted "Traffic Light" Sign

Southern Pride used these as well. Although they are now out of business, you may still be able to find some parts, and perhaps this light.

Quote - at this point - why would you even want one yet? At this stage of the game a distributor should be showing you machines and telling you why he thinks his particular machine, level of service, chemical line, etc. are exactly what you need and will surpass what others can offer. When you...

I have not heard of that practice before. It kind of worked in reverse for me - I visited installations and either knew, or found out who did the work before my initial contact with any distributor. Once I contacted distributors, they then pointed me in the direction of other installations...

    Soft Cloth Replacement

Erie Brush, Universal Brush, Sonny's - to name a few. I don't know what brand you have, but these companies all carry replacement material and equipment for many manufacturers' equipment. Mike

    best 2pass chemical

Thanks - I appreciate it. Can the Golden Glo Sealer bead enough to act as a drying agent if I can only use one product?

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but what other Stone Soap products are you using, and do you like them?

Gantry Style IBA verses Inverted L

You can't beat the presoak coverage on an inverted L machine. Any gantry style machine I have ever seen simply leaves much of the vehicle's surface poorly coated with chemical.

    D&s iq

Operators have to put their money where their mouth is, and if we are going to wash thousands and thousands of vehicles with our equipment, we better use it on whatever we drive! Yes - I know test washes are different, as there could be a malfunction, but he obviously had it dialed in enough so...

    Modifying equipment

Yes - there is more slapping with the shorter cloth, but I do have microfiber on this mitter, so the sound is not loud.

    Modifying equipment

I think one of the best, and easiest, modifications I made was changing the cloth length on a Belanger Whip Across. The mitter has two sets of four baskets traveling across the vehicle (side to side) in opposing directions. With the standard length cloth, the curtains "split" fairly quickly...

Sharing an idea: Hot Wax & Mirror Rinsing

Thanks for the post Tom - it looks great. One question - do you notice a difference if the Simoniz Hot Wax is followed by friction or not? I noticed you have a mitter after the application, but no side wheels. It seems like the mitter would help drag the foam off for rinsing, but is the...
